Power of 10: Iowans for Sensible Priorities Presidential Bird-dog challenge

We bird-dog to make Sensible Federal Budget Priorities the top-of-mind issue in 2008.  Candidates come to Iowa to hear about the issues that matter to US!  Instead of all those politicians coming to Iowa and expecting us to listen to them, what if we get THEM to listen to US? Instead of all the TALK about how much they care about us and our kids, what if we get together and tell them

"PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!"

The demand for sensible federal budget priorities needs to come directly from the grassroots.

The more candidates hear us talking about the federal budget – the more likely they are to talk about it and add priorities to their platform.  By bird-dogging we hope to get candidates to endorse the message of sensible federal budget priorities and make it their top issue in 2008.

Because Iowans have the unique opportunity with the First-in-the-Nation caucuses to meet and question many of the presidential candidates, our ability to shape the national agenda is unmatched anywhere in the country. The Iowa caucuses are OUR chance to get the candidates to address the need for sensible federal budget priorities.

Just by attending public candidate events and asking the presidential candidates priorities questions, Iowa citizens can get candidates, their campaigns and the national media to talk about the sensible federal budget priorities.

We are challenging Priorities Caucus Project members to participate in our bird-dogging effort, from now through the 2008 Presidential Caucuses aimed at moving America toward our mission:

  • To change US budget priorities to reflect a national commitment to education, healthcare, energy independence, job training and deficit reduction -- all at no additional taxpayers expense - by shifting spending from obsolete Cold War and nuclear weapons.

Our bird-dog campaign is called The Power of 10. The goal is to have every Presidential candidate asked a Priorities question at least 10 times in Iowa.

Here's how it works:

  • Go to the "Our Values, Our Questions" (link to our bird-dogging questions) page to see Priorities questions that you can ask the candidates or adapt to the candidates platforms.
  • We're asking YOU to commit to attending at least 10 candidate events and putting our questions to the Presidential candidates -- Republicans, Democrats and Independents -- 10 times between now and January 2008. Sign up to be a Priorities bird-dogger by emailing Jessica.

We will offer prizes for the person who attends the most candidate events and/or asks the most sensible federal budget priorities questions.
